Charles Weschler distinguished academic career once again rewarded and recognized worldwide as he is invited to work with colleagues as visiting scholar at Tsinghua University during the Spring 2025 semester.
Starting in 2010, Charles (Charlie) Weschler has been an ongoing Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing. His stays, typically two months, have been with the Building Science Program headed by Prof. Yinping Zhang. In the course of these visits he has co-advised three PhD students and collaborated with various faculty members studying chemicals found in homes, schools, and offices, as well as the chemical transformations that such chemicals undergo while indoors.
He was honored as a “Distinguished Visiting Professor” in 2018. The pandemic interrupted these visits, but in 2023 he and his wife, Lulu, resumed their time at Tsinghua. He has now accepted an invitation to return for two months this coming spring. He plans to continue to work with colleagues and students exploring the chemicals and chemical processes that occur in indoor air and on indoor surfaces, including human surfaces. As he notes, “Both in the U.S. and China, the chemistry that occurs indoors impacts the chemicals that we inhale, dermally absorb, and even ingest. If a chemical is found in an indoor environment, it will also likely be found in the urine and/or blood of the occupants.”
