Dan Wartenberg Memorial Travel Award: Application Deadline June 20, 2022

Dan Wartenberg, Ph.D.

Dan Wartenberg, Past President of ISEE, is fondly remembered by many of his fellow colleagues as being the face of ISEE. In a letter to the Society, Francine Laden, Past President 2014-2015, remembers Dan as, “a wonderful mentor.” She goes on in sharing that Dan, “taught me how to be a better scientist and how to lead a Society. I am certain that the success of ISEE today owes a lot to the strong foundation that Dan helped create and maintain.”

We are pleased to announce that Dan’s legacy will continue through the newly created, Dan Wartenberg Memorial Travel Award. This award will support conference attendees with projects involving communities and stakeholders in grappling with environmental or occupational health issues. Dan was widely recognized for his scholarship but found great satisfaction in working with community members and stakeholders in defining their goals and advising on approaches to attain them. Attendees with environmental justice projects including participatory elements would be especially welcome. Travel awards may also be awarded to those with pending funding proposals that explicitly include non-scientists in meaningful ways.

Applications may be submitted here. The committee welcomes applications from all individuals, regardless of if they are presenting on the 2022 program. Individuals of all rank and experience level are invited to apply, and applications from all regions and chapters are encouraged. Applications are due Monday, June 20. Please contact the ISEE Secretariat at secretariat@iseepi.org with any questions.
