Welcome to the Rutgers Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) Residency Program and our new website!
Occupational and Environmental Medicine offers an incredibly diverse range of career opportunities. We are so proud of our graduates who have become practitioners, leaders, researchers, and educators who advance the recognition, management and prevention of occupational illness and injury through their efforts in government, industry, and academia. Take a moment to browse our alumni directory to see the broad range of employment opportunities that currently engage Rutgers graduates.
Our field is experiencing a critical shortage of board-certified occupational and environmental medicine physicians. Available jobs for board-certified OEM specialists far exceed the number of graduates being produced by training programs. It is a wonderful time to consider the benefits of working in occupational medicine. Occupational medicine is a rewarding field for many physicians. This is undoubtedly reflected in the surveys that show the physicians in our specialty experience some of the lowest burnout rates among specialties.
The Rutgers OEM residency program is actively recruiting candidates with one or more post-graduate years of ACGME-accredited training. Although technically a residency, our program operates more like a fellowship for individuals with prior clinical residency training Preference is given to candidates who have completed primary care residency training, We also consider outstanding candidates who have at least completed an internship/transitional year.
