Division of Global Environmental Health
Director: Nancy Fiedler, Ph.D.
The Global Environmental Health division’s mission aims to address the impacts of occupational, environmental, and ecological factors on health in diverse communities and cultures throughout New Jersey, the US, and the world.
As part of the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, we are committed to be leaders along with Rutgers and the State of New Jersey on the environmental aspects of global research, education, and service.
Our Division will collaborate with the existing Rutgers Global Health Program under the direction of Dr. Richard Marlink as well as researchers across the University working on international environmental health (via seminars, informational sessions and collaborative sponsored research).

Goals and Values
- Promote research initiatives involving global health concerns in collaboration with EOHSI members
- Identify partners within Rutgers who are currently involved in Global Projects
- Develop ties with the Rutgers Global (GAIA)
- Begin the steps to establish EOHSI as a WHO Collaborative Center
- Provide short course opportunities and training on environmental and occupational health issues
- Develop a seminar series with a focus on global environmental health
- Develop rapid response mechanisms for international support, relief, and research
- Develop University-wide global health conference with focus on environment
- Website, face book, twitter highlights for Global Division
- Facilitating responses to transdisciplinary funding opportunities
- Develop a listserve with notification for funding opportunities
- Create pilot projects in anticipation for national funding opportunities
Strengths
Research portfolio exists and can be expanded upon
There are multiple Rutgers investigators working throughout the globe on a number of environmental health e issues
We have a large number of international students, both graduate and undergraduate
There are a number of university wide international collaborations that are already well-established
Our division faculty have several important emerging strengths, particularly in ecosystem services, risk communication, risk analysis, response, and restoration, and remediation
Ability to leverage EOHSI divisional resources in response to global initiatives
Proven record for integrating trans-disciplinary research
Experience in evaluating the impact of interventions with expertise in program evaluation to assess the economic, social, and health impacts
