In Memoriam: Andrew I. Brooks (1969-2021)

EOHSI Member Dr. Andrew I. Brooks passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 23, 2021. A resident member of the research faculty in Rutgers’ Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI), a member of its NIEHS Center of Excellence, and a member of the graduate faculty in Rutgers Joint Graduate Program in Toxicology, research professor in Rutgers-New Brunswick’s School of Arts and Sciences in the Department of Genetics, and an academic member of the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey, Andy distinguished himself during his tenure of service to the field of biomedicine, and to business activities designed to improve human health. In 2020, he led the development of the Rutgers COVID-19 diagnostic assay, which received FDA emergency use authorization in March as the first approved saliva diagnostic. We are honored to have shared his accomplishments with RUCDR here at EOHSI. Andy was a remarkable person, brilliant scientist, great colleague and friend who will be missed every day.

We at EOHSI would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to his wife, daughters, mother, sister and extended family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony can be viewed here:
