  • Title of the study: A Randomized Trial of Portable Air Cleaners to Reduce Coronavirus Exposures at Home

    Principal Investigator: Howard Kipen, MD, MPH

    Purpose: To see if the use of a home air cleaner reduces the levels of coronavirus in the air

    Who Participates: 20 adults who tested positive for the coronavirus within the past 7 days.

     

     

    Study Procedures: Participants are screened for eligibility over the phone. The study involves 2 days of air monitoring in your home.

    • The study team will make appointments for 3 visits to your home.
      • At the first visit, the air monitoring equipment and air cleaner will be set up. You will also be given a saliva test for the coronavirus.
      • At the second visit, the next day, the team will collect the air samples from the first 24 hours.
      • At the third study visit, the team will collect the air samples from the second 24 hours. All monitoring equipment will be removed from the home.
    • You will be asked to complete questionnaires at each study visit.

    Compensation: You will be given a $100 gift card and may keep the air cleaner.
