Who We Are
From children to adults, a growing number of individuals are concerned
about how environmental hazards effect human health and realize the
importance of making informed decisions about environmental issues.
The Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI) is
one of the nation's leading environmental research and education
facilities and is jointly sponsored by the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Rutgers,
The State University of New Jersey.
The National Environmental Health Education Campaign is a nationwide
program created by the Resource Center of the Environmental and
Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI) to improve environmental
health literacy among youth, educators and the general public. The
campaign promotes both an understanding of the environment and an
awareness of the impact of environmental factors on human health.
The campaign is a multi-faceted program that includes:
- Curricular materials for K-12th grade schools and vocational programs
translated from leading scientific research
- Materials for the workplace and the community
- Teacher professional training initiatives and support
- Corporate/foundation sponsorship
Materials and programs address priority environmental and occupational
health concerns, integrate new technology and teaching methodologies and
assist teachers in meeting emerging education standards. To date, our
materials are in use in 27 states, as well as overseas. Overall, nearly
3,270 teachers and 65,500 school children have benefited from our
programs.
