Center
of Excellence at EOHSI
The National Institute
of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Center is one of 28
Centers of Excellence which strives to understand, detect, prevent
and solve environmental health problems through collaborative research.
The Center, which was established in 1988, now has more than 64 members
from nine departments within Rutgers,
The State University of New Jersey and the University
of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical
School. Regionally, the Center serves New Jersey, the most densely
populated and perhaps the most heavily polluted state in the nation.
Nationally, our members serve as advisors to state and local officials,
and citizen groups on issues of pollution and consequent disease, environmental
health education and disease prevention. The NIEHS Center is under the
directorship of Dr.
Deborah Cory-Slechta, with Dr.
Debra Laskin, associate director, and Betty Davis, center administrator. Briefly, the NIEHS Center is organized
as follows:
- Core I - Environment-Gene
Interactions
- Core II - Environmental
Effects on Signal Transduction
-
Core III
- Neural and Developmental Toxicology
- Core IV - Exposure Analysis
and Health Effects
-
COEP
- Community Outreach and Educational Programs
