Stereology
Cost Estimate
A cost estimate can be prepared
and will be based on the amount of tissue sectioning, staining, mounting
and counting required for a particular project. In general, sectioning,
staining, and mounting can usually be accomplished in one week using
15 to 25 tissue blocks or samples. Once all of the criteria for a stereologic
probe have been developed the actual amount of time for counting is
typically 2 to 3 hours per sample depending on the number of probes
and regions being examined at one time. We are currently able to count
both TH+ and TH- neurons and measure TH+ cell volume in two different
nuclei in the brain in approximately two hours. Users will be billed
for experimental steps as they are performed. For tissue staining, we
usually include appropriate controls to determine that the primary and
secondary antibodies are working appropriately. Discussions will be
made with the investigator during all testing steps to determine whether
or not a full stereologic approach should be conducted.
