Dr. Brian Buckley is the Executive Director of
Labs and Facilities at the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences
Institute (EOHSI) and is a member of the graduate faculty at Rutgers
University. Dr. Buckley received a B.S. in chemistry for the University
of New Hampshire in 1983, a PhD in analytical chemistry from North
Carolina State University in 1989 and has also had a post-doctoral
appointment at The Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He has worked as
a Laboratory Manager for the Nestles Quality Assurance Laboratory
in Dublin Ohio. Currently he is specializing in spectroscopic, mass
spectrometric and chromatographic instrument modification for matrix
specific analyses. His work has focused on methods development for
the analysis of environmental contaminants at their biological interface.
His research group has specialized in biofluid extractions, trace
metals quantification and speciation by chromatography coupled to
plasma mass spectrometry. He has been working on Microwave Assisted
Solvent Extraction (MASE) and Ion Trap Mass Spectrometric analysis
techniques for active contaminants and their metabolites for the last
four years. Most recently he has begun to examine the use of microwave
extraction to facilitate enzymatic digest of proteins for protein
sequencing vis LC/ITMS
